Roger ballen - up date 1

Up date on one of my favourite photographers, behind the scenes with Roger Ballen.

"It is with great pleasure and excitement that I am announcing the release of Asylum of the Birds, a documentary short film based on the book of the same name published by Thames & Hudson.

I invited director Ben Crossman to join me in my time at the Asylum, and together we have created something psychologically powerful and unique.

I hope you enjoy it." Roger Ballen

Roger Ballen

"If an artist is one who spends his life trying to define his being, I guess I would have to call myself an artist" ; Roger Ballen.

Born In New York in 1950 but has lived in South Africa since 1920. He started out documenting the people in small villages but slowly created a very unique style. Beautiful compositions using wire, dirty walls and childish like drawings as a trademark, he creates a dark, somewhat disturbing atmosphere. Perfect black and white prints of staged scenes.
