Pakpoom Silaphan

Pop art, big brand logos and metal advertising displays fused with well known images and iconic figures, Pakpoom Silaphan brings it in his modern style pop art vision. Pakpoom Silaphan is a Thai-born artist, now living and working in London. East meets West in more ways than one.
The infiltration of western imagery and ideology had a profound influence on Silaphanʼs understanding of the West and on his artistic practice. Silaphan creates an engaging dialogue between the relationship between East and West, and the universal language of signs and symbols that is accessible to all and has been imprinted on to the universal collective consciousness.

SASK-Hasselt, Belgium

Before the rebuild

True to tradition students have rebuilt their workspace into a temporary gallery, as June is the time to present their work to a jury. Guiding the students at 'Atelier vrije Grafiek' is master of arts Olivier Martens, skilled in a wide range of graphic technique.
'Atelier vrije grafiek' is part of SASK-Hasselt, Belgium, and a good spot to master Lithography, Intaglio printing (etching), screen printing and solar plate technique. Mostly working with eco-friendly products nowadays.

Tim Mara

Tim Mara (1948-1997) professor and printmaker, born in Dublin, Republic of Ireland. His screen prints could take up to three months to finish.
One of Tim quotes says a lot about his work or the way he approaches printmaking in general; ‘In the hierarchy of fine art, printmaking is usually associated with craft skills – with technique. And that gets in the way. My work was always about the ideas more than the medium‘.
Colourful multi layered screen prints, a bit like pop art, but still feeling up to date. Most of his work was accomplished using the (photo)screen printing technique, sometimes combined with lithography or intaglio printing. Repeating patterns and loads of colour, Tim's legacy to the world of printmaking.

...And sometime a little less colour....
