Daniel Firman

Daniel Firman lives and works in Lyon, France. Conceptual art, sculptures or installations ? or all of the above. Wursa, the sculpture of an elephant balancing on its trunk 18,000 km above the earth. Or better gravity would allow it 18,000 km up in the air.

Daniel's plaster sculptures are paused, waiting to move on. You wonder what their next move will be. Full of humor and a bit absurd, and never showing their face.  

Rahman Hak-Hagir

Austrian Born - Vienna based and half Afghan, Rahman Hak-Hagir is a conceptual and performance artist whom if been following for a while now. I love his Detroit Dollar project, a worldwide one-off Dollar note given on permanent loan to the Detroit MONA. More about this project here.

Other work is focussing on the conflicting priorities between individual and social environment. Using video and photography to spread his message.

Frederic Geurts

Finding the balance between gravity and motion is often the main theme in Frederic Geurts' work. This Belgian artist constructs fragile, mostly monumental metal structures. Almost working like an architect or engineer his artwork becomes a part of the building, nature or whatever places they are designed for.
He is not keen on spreading a message and even though most critics find beauty is not a criterion in modern art, Frederic thinks you don't have to exclude it.
He had his first solo exhibition in Z33, Hasselt, Belgium.

Chung Kwang Young

Korean abstract artist Chung Kwang young uses natural dyes and handmade mulberry paper to create his sculptures. He began working on his Aggregation series in the mid 1990s. Chun extracted the papers from old books and wrapped it around thousands of polystyrene triangles. Creating large meteoric installations looking cracked and weathered.
Chung Kwang Young on mulberry paper: “I think the thing I first saw [as a child] was my mother’s face, and then there was mulberry paper. This paper is not just for writing and drawing, but is like the spirit and soul of Koreans.”
